You don’t need to figure everything out today

Starting something new can feel overwhelming when every website seems to offer a different answer.

Let’s begin with what fits you: your experience, your interests, your time and what you would like to learn.

1. Notice what you already bring

Think about things you have done at work, at home or in your community.

What do people ask you for help with? What do you enjoy explaining or organising? What subjects keep your interest?

Write down three possibilities. You don’t need to turn them into a business yet.

2. Be clear about what you want

Are you exploring a little extra income, a project with purpose, or something you hope to grow over time?

Consider how much time and money you would feel comfortable putting into learning. It is fine to begin with free resources and a small commitment.

3. Understand one option at a time

Providing a service, creating something to sell and recommending products are different kinds of work. Each has its own demands.

Before choosing, look at what the day-to-day work involves, how you would reach customers and what it might cost. You don’t have to try everything.

4. Choose a small first step

Your next step might be writing down a service you could offer, practising an unfamiliar tool or learning more about one type of online work.

Choose something manageable. Give yourself time to practise before deciding whether it suits you.

Learning alongside you

I’ll share my experience and the lessons I’m learning as I explore this world too. I’ll distinguish between things I have personally tried and things I am still researching.

We can be curious, ask sensible questions and take our time.

For today: write down one thing you enjoy doing and one thing you would like to learn. Start there.
