One day, I looked at my laptop and saw years of unfinished plans: old course emails, abandoned websites, closed Etsy shops and books I had spent years creating.
Each had begun with hope. Perhaps this would be the idea that helped me build an income of my own.

What I’ve tried—and what I’ve learned
I’ve spent years exploring ways to earn online.
I built business websites that didn’t work out. I devoted four years to self-publishing, but my books never produced the income I had hoped for. My Etsy shops made some sales, which was encouraging, but those sales weren’t consistent. Eventually, I closed them.
Those experiences brought disappointment, but they also gave me something worth sharing: an understanding of how much time, hope and effort can sit behind an online business.
I know how easy it is to feel excited by a new idea—and how difficult it can be to decide whether to keep going, change direction or stop.
The part I found hardest
For me, one of the biggest difficulties was being visible.
I was comfortable taking courses, making plans and working quietly behind my laptop. Talking about my work felt much harder. I worried about being judged, especially if another attempt didn’t succeed.
Sometimes, searching for a new opportunity felt easier than sharing the work I had already started.
Recognising that pattern helped me think differently about my next steps.
What I’m doing differently now
I’m learning to focus on one approach, give myself time to understand it and share what I’m doing.
Posting on social media was a significant step for me. I felt exposed, but I posted anyway. I’ve also begun connecting with other entrepreneurs and learning within a community.
I’m still working towards the income and flexibility I want in retirement. I don’t have a finished success story to offer. What I can share is my experience of trying, reflecting and taking the next step.
Why Confident Online After 60 exists
I wanted to create a welcoming place for women over 60 who are curious about earning online but unsure where to begin.
Here, I’ll share:
